Drew Z. Greenburg
One day, sitting in law school and preparing for exams, Drew Z. Greenberg decided that he wanted to be a writer. So on a whim he wrote a Star Trek script in between studies, submitted it, and then was invited to come and pitch stories. "That was when the light bulb went off over my head and I said, 'This is something I can do.'" (Interview with the BBC.)
His career in television has been impressive since then. He wrote one episode for Queer As Folk before being noticed by Mutant Enemy, where he proceded to write many episodes for Buffy seasons 6 and 7. "It was the most pleasant, most fun experience a person can possibly imagine. I was stepping into the office of not one but two of my idols, Marti Noxon and Joss Whedon. I got to meet both of them at the same time, and that's quite heady, I have to say." (Interview with the BBC.) He then moved over to Firefly, and after that cancellation has worked on The O.C. and Smallville.
About working on Firefly, Greenberg said, "It was a blast. It was a blast. I wish the show had gone on longer than it did, but getting to be a part of something that was so different was really fun, and being part of a show that came out of the brain of Joss Whedon, that had a little bit of a different spin on it, was kind of an educational experience.... It was sort of, getting a different kind of lesson in TV. And, you know, it’s a spaceship. That’s cool! So, it was a ton of fun." (2nd interview with the BBC.)
"The only thing I remember is a little voice in my head: 'It's Joss Whedon, it's Joss Whedon, it's Joss Whedon.' I think there was a big grin on my face and I may have drooled a lot. Other than that I'm not really sure."
